EVE TEASING

Eve teasing is a euphemism used in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan for public sexual harassment, street harassment or molestation of women by men, with Eve being a reference to the biblical Eve. Considered a problem related to delinquency in youth it is a form of sexual aggression that ranges in severity from sexually suggestive remarks, inadvertent brushing in public places, catcalls, to outright groping. Sometimes it is referred to with a coy suggestion of innocent fun, making it appear innocuous with no resulting liability on the part of the perpetrator. Considering the semantic roots of the term in Indian English, eve-teasing refers to the temptress nature of Eve, placing responsibility on the woman as a tease, as though the aggressive response of the males was normal rather than criminal. Now let’s have a talk, I am not gonna show you some statics, some facts, I am gonna show you what you see daily but with my eyes. Talking of the cases we observe often in our daily life. It’s disgusting to see some guy commenting a girl on road n the girl passing away with fear in her eyes. I am sorry to say even there are many of those among us. It’s a very crucial matter. Imagine if you are forced to stop laughing, stop expressing, stop doing things you want to in the name of socialism….how will you feel? This is what that, girls have to face because of eve-teasers. If a girl is walking on road and if she is laughing or doing something which is a bit loud, it’s very normal that she has to face eve teasing. Because of these eve-teasers, there is fear, there is threat and a feel of being slave at the hands of society costing their freedom among female section of the society. Who is responsible?

Some of you will not accept the fact that it’s “WE” who are responsible. Just think for a second and ask yourself a question that what’s the purpose of this tease? Does it give pleasure?? If your answer’s “YES” then ask one more question, “Is it justified to satisfy your pleasure needs by harassing someone else?” After doing all such things it’s useless to call ourselves civilized, human beings. What we need is to be civilized in its real sense. Eve-teasing is a growing menace and a horrible curse on our society. In a society where we worship goddess Durga, Lakshmi, Mother Mary and many more; it’s our duty to take responsibility to stop female harassing. What you can do? For you guys, you have to take an oath that never to be indulged in such a heinous crime and try stopping as far as possible. For you girls, you have to take stand for yourself, if you be strong willed then there is no greater power other than you. I am not saying that be some super girl….but be a responsible and a strong willed girl. What we all can collectively do….is that we have to join hands and stand together and get strict laws to be enforced as soon as possible against such venomous things weakening our social, cultural and moral roots.
